Starting with very simple fundamentals the author creates confidence with achievable building blocks for novices like me. The structure helps demystify the process.The chapters are small and manageable—they include Basic Techniques, Equipment, Paint, Brushes, Papers, Getting to Know Your Colors, Experimenting with Mixes, Creating a Palette, Wet and Dry Techniques, Blending and Gradation, Creating Contrast, Keeping Brushwork Fluid, Digitizing Your Creations, Plant Directory, Roses, Peonies, Carnations, Dahlias, Anemones, Poppies, Foliage, Detail and Texture.Then the final chapters show how to build-on the previous information--Compositions, Flower Compositions, Flower Ball, Carnation Frieze, Foliage Frame, Violet Circlet, Colorful Bouquet, Peony Pattern and Poppy Streamer.For the paperback edition, other than some of the headings which are in light red or aqua the text is mercifully in black ink so it is as easy to read as possible. The only quibble is the font size for the actual instructions is mostly 6 or 7 point—very tiny even for people with good eyesight. There appears to be space to use a larger font so this seems like a design decision. The substance of the book is excellent providing a non-intimidating approach to creating beautiful watercolor artwork.

Love the book .. give me guild line how to paint flowers ..

I have been watercoloring for a few years now on a variety of subjects. Not great but I do some that I like but I have always struggled with realistic flowers.This book covers very elementary topices like selection of brushes and paint colors. Doesn't even mention Daniel Smith in which I am fully invested. OK - can't cover them all. I found these first few chapters off target and not useful but then evey author loves to tell their setup ...OK. I listen. But the key disappointment was the flowers that she drew. These were, in m opinion, for what that was worth, very abstract and simplistic design, compared to what I was aiming to achieve. S. Very disappointing given the high level of rave reviews that prompted me to buy it. Really, I want to return it though. I found very little info that actually helped me achieve more realistic and diverse floral paintings.This is why I gave it 3 stars - close but no cigar to an intermediate skill level artist. A beginner may find some good tips here. I will leave it at that. I got more out of the Bluprint online course I bought , then Craftsy.Truthfully. when I saw what the author consider a good floral painting, I was not at all interested in learning. But that is me... For what is tries to be, the author offers great explanation and tips.

Absolutely LOVE this book. It's is utter eye candy. Although every art book has a section about paints and colours in the front, I found this very useful as I have been interested in the Sennelier Watercolour brand and now get to use it with full instructions. Please note that this is not a book for realistic floral paintings but it is a loose style and clearly states its a 'Beginners' guide. I love the section on composition as that's something I always struggle with. The book is laid out beautifully and the explanations are well done. Any beginner would love to have this book. From here you can only expand your knowledge base and start creating your own colour palette and floral styles. Would definitely recommend it.

I purchased this book bc I find different watercolor painting styles unique & interesting. This particular book has a very loose style of painting. The book contains 150 pages; first 50 pages go over materials & techniques. Then Marie explains (& shows with pictures) how to paint [various stages/view points of] 6 flowers; rose, peony, carnation, dahlia, anemone, & poppy. She also shows you how to paint a few leaves & some "detail & texture" filler flowers (delphinium, hortensia, & astible). The flowers, fillers, & leaves take up 30 pages. The entire rest of the book is all floral compositions (bouquet, flower ball, circlet, pattern, etc). I enjoyed this book very much & Marie has a lovely "loose" style of painting that I just adore, but I wish there were more flowers. A much better suited title would be "DIY watercolor floral compositions" because that's really what the book focuses on- it's definitely not "flowers".
